Windows XP Mode / XPM
Windows 7 XP Mode, or Windows 7 XPM is the new feature in upcoming Windows 7 which allow users to run Windows XP applications from within the virtualized environment of Windows 7. This should give users the confidence that any of their applications running on Windows XP would still run on a Windows 7 machine.
When the new operating system comes out, most machines would be running Windows 7 or would be offered in most shops bundled together. One of the primary concerns of users is whether their applications would run in Windows 7 without any problems.
The Windows 7 compatibility features together with XPM should give users enough confidence on upgrading to the new operating system.
Microsoft realize how many users are still relying on Windows XP to power their businesses and probably home computes. As such Microsoft is not abandoning Windows XP by placing a feature in Windows 7 which allow users to easily virtualize the operating system.
