Why the Lack of Windows Vista Buzz at PDC

During the concluded PDC, Microsoft kept pounding on Windows 7 and Windows Azure and noticeably didn't mention Windows Vista that much except that Windows 7 is built on Vista and everything that works on Vista is going to work on Windows 7. Again, it's all about Windows 7.

Microsoft has voiced out their disappointment on the measly 2% growth of Vista on a yearly basis despite 12% growth on overall PC sales. The economy, rise of Netbooks, and the use of Windows XP on these sub-compact computers have contributed to the small increase in sales of Microsoft.

Has Microsoft given up on Windows Vista? I don't think they have given up; but I don't believe they think Vista is going to have the explosion that would allow it to be installed in 800 million computers -- XP install base. By putting Windows 7 and Windows Azure in the limelight, they could gauge whether it's time to focus their efforts on the successor of Windows Vista.

They don't need to do anything during the PDC for Windows Vista's sake as people are tired at this point with the continuous reversal of it's bad image. Talking about Windows 7 and Azure is the best thing to do. Windows Vista can just be around the corner as an option for people.
