As described by Microsoft: When you try to perform a backup in the Central Admin page, the backup disk space requirements are not calculated correctly. Even though you have sufficient disk space, you may receive the following error message:

The URL 'url to uploaded doc' is invalid. It may refer to a nonexistent file or folder, or refer to a valid file or folder that is not in this current web

This is an issue in MOSS 2007 and be fixed via this hotfix:
