Daemon Tools Not Working on Windows 7 and Used an Alternative Instead

I have just installed Windows 7 Build 7000 on my Lenovo S10 machine and I quickly encountered application incompatibility problems.

Daemon Tools which I have used for so long didn’t work on Windows 7. On the first installation I was asked to restart which was the normal installation process of Daemon. After restart, Daemon installed again and asked for another restart. Just to validate the problem with Daemon I complied with the restarts until I finally decided to stop on the fourth restart.

As an alternative solution to my Daemon problem in Windows 7, I used VirtualCloneDrive from SlySoft. I am on x86 platform and the application worked perfectly. From what I have gathered, this software also works in x64 platform as well. This software is free and the best part is that you no longer need to do any restarts during installation.

LG Watch Phone

This I like to have, the LG Watch Phone. It is a watch, touchscreen, phone, camera, video recorder, bluetooth, & 3G all rolled in your wrist. I just hope LG would keep the functionalities at a high level while the price at an acceptable level. I hope they synch up with my Lenovo S10 Windows Vista netbook.

Some People Hate Netbooks But All They Need is Sometime with It

I am reading a post months back by Mark Wilson from Gizmodo about his dislike for Netbooks. In an excerpt: The other day I walked into a coffee shop where I witnessed a man—a grown man—hunched over a tiny laptop. He wiggled with cautious, uncertain movements like a fat guy squeezing his way into an old pair of pants. His hands, too wide for the keyboard, made him look klutzy and a bit stupid. His face, in almost erotic proximity to the tiny screen, squinted to either see more clearly or repress the eyestrain. And to top off this scene of sleek convenience, a long, mismatching wire complete with power brick connected the computer to a nearby outlet. After all, such a small machine could never be expected to run off battery power alone!

I totally understand the problem with using Netbooks as I have experienced it with my Lenovo S10. Honestly, I initially thought I made a mistake as I found it difficult to read and type on my Lenovo S10. But after a few weeks, I just woke up and simply didn’t notice they were small. My fingers and eyes got used to it, similar to playing an electric guitar up to the 20th fret or trying out a yukelele for the first time.

Now, I love my netbook to the core especially with its triple boot – Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. The size allows me to carry a small bag and the weight doesn’t feel ripping my shoulders off. Not only that, when I work on my 15.4 inch laptop or desktop, I feel they are gigantic piece of equipments and I feel like going back to my netbook where I feel I can focus more on the task at hand.

If you feel you are having problems with your netbook, just give it some time.

Netbooks and Smartphones are the Next PCs in 2009

Rob Enderle has noted that netbooks and smartphones would be the PC platform for 2009. The rise of netbooks in 2008, the continuous growth, the continuous economic slump would further boost the sales of cheap laptop alternatives. At 400 USD, users would be able to do more than 50% of their productive work. Likewise, Smartphones are also said to power 2009. This small gadgets continue to become more powerful and cheaper and users would be more than happy to do more productive work in these devices.

As Rob points out: 2009, driven largely by the need to both be mobile and frugal will see an expansion of these thinner and less expensive communications and productivity platform products as more and more vendors being out ever more compelling products based on the Microsoft, Google, Apple, and even new Nova Palm platforms”, adds Enderle.

In 2009, we would see more powerful netbooks as Microsoft has already demoed that Windows 7 is going to run on Netbooks. Asus on the other hand, already announced that their succeeding Asus Eee PC would be powerful enough to run the next version of Windows with ease.

I am reading this post on Windows Vista Slogans about his slogan of Windows Vista and this is my response:

* The computer model said it was bug free (though the computer model kept crashing since it was running on Vista). Long been resolved

* If it ain’t broke, add tons of pointless features until it is. Don’t blame your ignorance on the OS.

* Get the full potential out of your computer! (in that it will be using all its memory and processing power constantly, even when just displaying a text file) I am running Windows Vista Ultimate on a Netbook, Lenovo S10 and works fine.

* If you downgrade to XP, you’re eventually going to miss those translucent titlebars. Definitely.

* Yeah it sucks, but Macs are for communists and homosexuals, so what are you going to do? ???

* Trade speed and reliability for some neat photo editing features you’ll probably never use. Again, I am running Windows Vista Ultimate on a Netbook, Lenovo S10 and works fine.

* Incompatibility with your old software and hardware is just motivation to try new things! Long been resolved.

* You pretty much have to buy it when you purchase a new computer, so we don’t even really need a slogan.
