I am reading a post months back by Mark Wilson from Gizmodo about his dislike for Netbooks. In an excerpt: The other day I walked into a coffee shop where I witnessed a man—a grown man—hunched over a tiny laptop. He wiggled with cautious, uncertain movements like a fat guy squeezing his way into an old pair of pants. His hands, too wide for the keyboard, made him look klutzy and a bit stupid. His face, in almost erotic proximity to the tiny screen, squinted to either see more clearly or repress the eyestrain. And to top off this scene of sleek convenience, a long, mismatching wire complete with power brick connected the computer to a nearby outlet. After all, such a small machine could never be expected to run off battery power alone!
I totally understand the problem with using Netbooks as I have experienced it with my Lenovo S10. Honestly, I initially thought I made a mistake as I found it difficult to read and type on my Lenovo S10. But after a few weeks, I just woke up and simply didn’t notice they were small. My fingers and eyes got used to it, similar to playing an electric guitar up to the 20th fret or trying out a yukelele for the first time.
Now, I love my netbook to the core especially with its triple boot – Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. The size allows me to carry a small bag and the weight doesn’t feel ripping my shoulders off. Not only that, when I work on my 15.4 inch laptop or desktop, I feel they are gigantic piece of equipments and I feel like going back to my netbook where I feel I can focus more on the task at hand.
If you feel you are having problems with your netbook, just give it some time.
