Microsoft’s Transporter Hits IBM and Lotus Notes
Microsoft sends out a message to IBM every year during their annual Lotusphere customer conference that they are aiming for its demise by giving out free tools that target IBM's products. This year Microsoft launches their tool named Transporter which aims to ease the migration from Notes/Domino to Microsoft's software suite which is going to be available for free in the next month or so.
The free tool which is downloadable from Microsoft's website helps in the messaging and directory migration by running both Domino and Exchange together as the migration begins. Microsoft's tool not only helps in the migration of access control lists, mailboxes, and user accounts but gives an analysis of the Notes application infrastructure which can be used for migration plans to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.
Executive Ed Brill of the worldwide sales unit of IBM/Lotus doubts that Microsoft's effort is unlikely to succeed saying that its products are no different from past versions.
Pathetic Ed
Ed Brill is pathetic because he either doesn't know what he's talking about or he is playing dumb on Microsoft's new unified communications platform through Exchange 2007, SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS 2007), and Office Communications Server 2007 which is far and wide better than it's previous versions.
Rivalry battle
The battle between IBM and Microsoft is going to last as long as it takes and Don Ferguson's transfer to Microsoft together with their latest Transporter tool are the latest of their head-to-head match up.

BOOKMARK FOR REFERENCE

Hi, pathetic here. My comment is directed specifically to the MIGRATION TOOLS that are NOT YET EVEN AVAILABLE (they are still in beta). The previous versions of these migration tools haven’t done anything useful, and the new versions are simply a new coat of paint and a couple of other doo-dads.
I stand by my comment.
