Microsoft Moves a Step Closer to Centralization of Services in Live
Almost a year ago Microsoft planned to create a centralized destination for all their internet based services which saw the creation of Windows Live which aims to bring their desktop operating system to the web.
Though still in beta, they have moved their blogging and social networking service named Spaces over their Windows Live site. The company behemoth just announced the completion of the transfer and all URLs are directed to Windows Live.
In a nutshell, Spaces previously hosted over at Microsoft allows users to create pages and write blogs for them including uploading of their photos which can be viewed from the web, mobile devices or in email groups.
This is plain similar to the dominant and very popular MySpace site. Microsoft is hoping that through consolidation more and more people would convert to this service that offer features like Gadgets (mini applications) and widgets not found in most social sites.
As Microsoft stabilizes this site, I could see them bringing in their different applications like office and other productivity tools to incorporate in their services. This is going to be a one-stop shop for all the surfers’ needs that satisfy social, school/work or business interactions.
How fast Microsoft can pull this together is going to be interesting, when Live is going out of beta is probably the first thing we need to look at.
