Don Ferguson of IBM’s WebSphere Joins Microsoft

Years back it was the chief architect of Borland’s Delphi who transferred to Microsoft which helped develop .NET and C#.

Don Ferguson who is one of the top technologists of IBM and the father of WebSphere is transferring to Microsoft as the technical guy in the Platforms and Strategy Division in the office of the CTO.
His key job as reported on Eweek is: "Don focuses on both the evolutionary and revolutionary role of information technology in business," his executive bio said. "Understanding the trends, architecting and piloting the implications for existing and new products and evangelizing Microsoft's vision are the key aspects of Don's job."

I understand the move of Don especially at a time when IBM fades behind Microsoft’s dominance. His movement to Microsoft says a lot about the vision and future of the software giant; a key decision as they move forward competing against formidable threats like Google.

It would be very interesting to see whether Don will recruit his entire staff, department or colleagues similar to what Borland’s former chief architect did when he transferred to Microsoft.
