Distributed Social Networking (DiSO)

Marshall Kirkpatrick has written an article about Marc Canter’s vision of a distributed social networking that let users integrate all their social networks from around the web into one central dashboard.

This is an old concept done in the enterprise for decades already. Especially with the launch of SharePoint and now MOSS 2007, clients just can’t get enough of the dashboards. They want everything in there including all social computing aspects of SharePoint and an information synch service from all external tools to be in the dashboard. That’s just for starters, I even have clients that had everything including electric meter readings, mechanical temperature readings, or whatever even to the gasoline gauge being placed in the dashboard.
