There are lots of SharePoint alternatives but none of them contain all the functionalities of SharePoint. Nonetheless, if you only need one specific are in SharePoint, you might as well implement a software focused on that feature set as it would save you tons of money.

In the article of CMSWire, a list of various SharePoint alternatives for specific features is presented. CMSWire also recognize that none of these contain what SharePoint has to offer.

I am reading an article over at SFGate about the boost that Enterprise 2.0 is getting. According to the writer, Shane O’Neill, he feels that Enterprise 2.0 is not just a catchphrase but the integration of social networking software in the enterprise is seeing bigger and greater adoption.

He note that cultural clashes have diminished because of the stronger demand for integration of social tools in the workplace—”
Workers, particularly younger ones, are demanding that the social tools they use via Facebook and Twitter spill over into the workplace. In addition, the cultural clashes that once prevented senior management from adopting social tools are waning.”

Something to ponder upon on how the government is using Microsoft to spy on its people.

Microsoft has been promoting digital collaboration and enterprise integration to make sure that disparate technologies would be able to communicate and combine under one roof. This approach clearly means that Microsoft doesn’t aim to be the one-stop-shop vendor but instead they want to be the central piece of various vendors thru their SharePoint platform and integration tools (current Business Connectivity Services in SharePoint 2010).
