SharePoint list can’t substitute even simple sql database table.
Data retrieval is awful if list has more than 2000 entries.
There are no unique columns etc etc

On the contrary, I think that one mistake that Sharepoint newbies often mistake is the exact opposite that they use Sharepoint Lists excessively, using them as if they were SQL tables! Lists are NOT tables, although they might behave similar to them in some scenarios.
